Marketing and communications company Five Coats, has been acquired by web design and development company Fat Media.

Michael Gibson, who established Five Coats in 2001, has joined the Fat Media team as Managing Director and Rachel Ballard, Five Coats’ other Director, has established Quay Creative to continue her video production, copywriting and editorial work.

Michael takes a wealth of experience in technology media and marketing to Fat Media. Commenting on the acquisition, he said: “Five Coats’ work for clients such as the Department for Education and Skills and HM Treasury required a lot more web-based skills and I’m delighted that we can put them to work for our clients. Fat Media has enjoyed phenomenal growth since its establishment in 2005. This acquisition will also enable the company to provide the additional services offered by Five Coats to their clients.”

Rachel Ballard, who joined Five Coats in 2004, said: “This is a very exciting opportunity, not only for the company but also for Michael and me. Five Coats had reached a point where we wanted to grow the business. Having married each other earlier this year, we both felt this was an ideal time to divide our business and personal lives and grow two separate companies. Establishing Quay Creative allows me to build on the reputation we have worked so hard to develop over the past few years through Five Coats.”

Rachel has 15 years experience of producing effective, broadcast quality programmes for national and international organisations. Under Quay Creative she will build on her production work for established clients such as Lancashire County Council and her copywriting and editorial work for Mills Media, Destin Solutions and Lancashire Association of Clubs for Young People. Rachel will also continue to edit Business Matters magazine on behalf of Lancaster Chamber of Commerce.
